Halloween, a bunch of trucks and dog parades.

Halloween is a week from Saturday, so this is the warm-up weekend and it’s packed. I plan to try to take advantage of what is likely the last few weeks of beautiful New England fall before hibernation season. There is a ton of daytime family friendly Halloween things including Falloween at Drumlin Farm which looks awesome. Reminder to make sure you have your outfits ready so you don’t have a last minute scramble (no shade - that’s usually us).

This weekend was full of boogers in our house so we kept it low key. Hope to enjoy the beautiful sunshine incoming!

Picks of the Week

The Track at Suffolk Downs, East Boston  ·  Saturday, October 24, 11:00 AM–2:00 PM  ·  Free  ·  Register ahead (suggested)  ·  All ages

Its pretty much touch-a-truck meets Halloween. Fire trucks, construction equipment and emergency vehicles that littles can climb into, plus face painting, bubbles, music and trick-or-treat bags while they last. 11 to noon is the sensory-friendly hour: sirens, lights and horns turned way down. These events are sound and stimulation overload (lots of truck horns going wild) so I wouldn’t plan on staying more than an hour (for your sanity).

Dedham Square  ·  Saturday, October 24, 2:00–5:00 PM (rain date Sunday)  ·  Free  ·  Drop-in  ·  All ages

The whole square trick-or-treats: 30–40 shops hand out candy (look for the ghost in the window), then decorated cars at the Registry of Deeds lot from 3 on with a giant inflatable, games, face painting, crafts and touch-a-truck. Sensory-friendly half hour 2:30–3. Live music on the Town Green 4–6. Parking should be available in the square

Drumlin Farm, Lincoln  ·  Saturday, October 24, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM  ·  $12 kids / $15 adults (members $8 / $10)  ·  All ages
